Mid-Year Market Update: Volatility in your portfolio

In part five of our Mid-Year Market Update video series, we hear from James Paterson, Head of Wealth and Client Services.

We are living in a really tough season for financial markets, Paterson says.

“Falling markets, the war in Europe, high costs of living - there has been a lot going on in markets recently,” Paterson says.

This is coming off the back of what has been a really unsettling period around Covid too, he says.

“Some of the important messages for investors at the moment are to stay the course and don’t panic - this is just a cycle. We will come through this,” he says.

For some of us, this might be difficult to experience in reality, especially when you’ve been watching your investment fall in value month after month, Paterson says.

But it’s not all bad news. Downturns can also create opportunities.

So what are his tips for navigating the current downturn as an investor?
