Mid-Year Market Update: Finding hidden gems during global volatility

In part two of our Mid-Year Market Update video series, we hear from Toby Woods, Senior Investment Analyst for Global and UK & Europe fund, and Guy Thornewill, Head of Global Research. Both are based in our London office.

In the first part of the video, Toby Woods takes a look back in time, covering strategic similarities between Pie Funds and the first explorers of the Antarctic.

Standing outside the British Museum, Woods explains how thinking outside the box helped the early explorers reach their goals.

Having all the tools doesn’t necessarily mean success, Woods says, and the same applies to investing.

“In a boutique like Pie we can be more nimble, and that’s exactly what we are striving to do,” Woods explains.

“In the current climate, we are prepared to adapt and change to suit the conditions we are in,” he says.

In the second part of the video, Guy Thornewill covers key investment activity in our global funds.

“Being agile and flexible is important in volatile times, as is being able to think outside the box,” Thornewill says.

At Pie, this has meant looking further, and in new locations, for opportunities, he says.

“The core goal of the funds will still be finding high-quality growth stocks with large growing addressable markets, sustainable profit growth, strong balance sheets and great management teams.”

So in what areas have our investment team found opportunities?
